Umm… is he looking at me?
Feast your eyes on Williams Martin Sanchez Lopez (Uruguay) and his enormous orbs.
This father from Montevideo, Uruguay, has an unusual talent for popping out his eyeballs, a shocking skill that has now got him into the record books.
Williams can relax the muscles around his eyes and safely push out his eyeballs, a process called ‘protrusion’, which helped him obtain the title of farthest eyeball pop (male).
And after jump-scaring his doctor, they were able to measure his orbital excursion length, revealing that his eyes can protrude a remarkable 19 mm (0.74 in)!
Williams first realized he had inflating eyeballs when he was 8-9 years old, when messing around with his friends at school.
“It started when I was a kid,” he said. “I could basically move the upper and lower part of the muscles around my eyes, [and] over time I perfected my skill until at last I was able to move the eye completely out of its socket.”
Naturally, Williams’ favourite part about his skill is the reactions he gets from surprised onlookers when they see his protruding peepers.
“The funniest thing is when maybe a person doesn’t realize what they’re about to see, when I come close to them and pop out my entire eyeball in this way, people definitely don’t just sit there and watch, but they basically jump two metres high,” Williams joked.
“So then they ask me to do it one more time to see it better, because they are stunned by this thing that not everyone can do.”
The father-of-four works in logistics and now lives in a province of Milan, Italy, and loves sharing his talents on social media.
Fascinated fans beg Williams in the comments to scream their name while popping out his eyes, a feat which he repeats constantly, each time getting millions of views. “I’m a person that likes to kid around and laugh, so the fact that I can pop out my eyes, let’s say that it’s a very different point of view in general,” he said. “And this has helped me take this very important step and recognize who Williams is.”
Williams appreciates that his talent provides him with a unique outlook on life, and he encourages anyone with similar talents to try and get recognition for their special gifts. He doesn’t mind the fact that someday someone might overtake his record title, and says “it will still have been a beautiful, very beautiful experience I’ve had here at Guinness World Records.”
And he is especially glad that now his children can see their father as a genuine, jaw-dropping eye-popping record holder.
“I don’t think my father could ever change because of a record, because he’s always been a kind and altruistic person,” said Williams’ daughter, Rosa Sanchez Lopez.
“I’m very proud of my dad, I believe in him, I always knew he could do it and he’s had a beautiful journey.”
