"Vladimir, STOP!" Trump says he's "not happy" with Russia's strikes on Kyiv
President Donald Trump voiced displeasure today at overnight Russian strikes on Kyiv, instructing his Russian counterpart to halt the assault.
The comments came a day after Trump accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky of prolonging the war by not agreeing to a US peace proposal that would in essence cede control of all Russian-controlled territory in Ukraine to Moscow.
Trump said Zelensky, who he has repeatedly disparaged, was more difficult to manage than Putin.
“I think we have a deal with Russia. We have to get a deal with Zelensky and I hope that Zelensky – I thought it might be easier to deal with Zelenskyy — so far it’s been harder,” Trump said in the Oval Office.
Hours later, Russian began its deadliest assault on Ukraine’s capital in nine months, killing at least eight people, according to the Ukrainian Prosecutor General’s Office. Zelensky said he believed the bombardment was to “pressure” the White House, amid pressure over the American proposed ceasefire deal.
“Today’s attack is one of the Russian’s most complex, most daring,” Zelensky said during a trip to South Africa.
